Google Glass

Project Glass is a research and development program by Google to develop an augmented reality head-mounted display (HMD). Project Glass products would display information in smartphone-like format hands-free and could interact with the Internet via natural language voice commands. The prototype's functionality and minimalist appearance (aluminium strip with 2 nose pads) has been compared to Steve Mann's EyeTap.

The operating system software used in the glasses will be Google's Android.

Project Glass is being developed by Google X Lab, which has worked on other futuristic technologies such as self-driving cars. The project was announced on Google+ by Babak Parviz, an electrical engineer who has also worked on putting displays into contact lenses; Steve Lee, a project manager and "geolocation specialist"; and Sebastian Thrun, who developed Udacity as well as worked on the self-driving car project. Google has patented the design of Project Glass.

Facebook Unveils New Search Tool!

Posted by OurBizSpace

How you search Facebook is about to change. In fact, just the act of searching Facebook is probably about to start.

Facebook is trying to give Google a run for its money, with a new product called "Graph Search." It turns some of the personal information people have shared on Facebook into a powerful searchable database.

Until now, the search bar you saw when you logged in to your Facebook page wasn't very powerful. You could only search for Timelines -- your friends' pages, other peoples' public pages and business or product pages.

But now, after close to a year and a half of development, the new "Graph Search" will allow you to search and discover more about your friends and other information that's been put on the world's largest social site.

The new tool, available only to a limited set of U.S. users at first, turns key information that nearly a billion people have shared on the site -- including photos, places, and things they "like" -- into a searchable database tailored to your individual social network.

The new tool allows you to search across your friends' Timelines, without having to go to each of their Timeline pages to find out if they like a specific place or thing.

The feature might seem like a simple product addition, but not only has it been in the works since mid-2011, it puts Facebook in a unique position as a search engine competitor to Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft's Bing. However, Facebook says it hopes to provide something entirely different -- something that's more personalized.

You can go to facebook.com/graphsearch to get on the waiting list.

Google Bringing In More Than $100 Million Per Day Via AdWords!

Posted by OurBizSpace

Though investors seemed disappointed by Google’s third-quarter numbers, its core AdWords business is going like gangbusters, according to a new study by WordStream. The software company found Google earning $100 million a day through AdWords in Q3, serving 5.5 billion impressions per day on search pages and 25.6 billion impressions per day on the Google Display Network.

With $10.86 billion in ad revenue last quarter, we know that Google is making $121 million per day from ads. That’s simple division and similar to Google’s previous two quarters. But WordStream’s focus on the $100 million figure is part of a bundle of statistics trying to break down how that money is earned.

Average click-through rate (CTR) in Q3 on Google search came in at 3.5 percent, meaning advertisers paid for 192 million clicks daily. On the display network, CTR was only 0.18 percent, resulting in 45.8 million clicks per day. The search figure is 12.4% lower than Q2, and the display number has risen 13.8% in the same period.

Bing’s Voice Search On Xbox Now Searches The Web, Too!

Posted by OurBizSpace

Microsoft is expanding Bing’s capabilities in the living room with news today that Xbox users can search the web via their console.

It’s part of the “new entertainment experience” that Microsoft is pushing out this week via the Xbox.

Bing Voice Search has been available on the Xbox since June 2011, but it could only search content available via the console itself — games, movies, TV shows, music and so forth. But Microsoft has added Internet Explorer into the mix, and with that comes the ability to do Bing voice searches of web content, not just Xbox content.

Facebook, Google oppose US online piracy bills

Posted by OurBizSpace

Internet heavyweights Facebook, Google, Twitter and Yahoo! joined ranks on Tuesday to oppose legislation in the US Congress intended to crack down on online piracy.

In a joint letter, the firms said they "support the bills' stated goals -- providing additional enforcement tools to combat foreign 'rogue' web sites that are dedicated to copyright infringement or counterfeiting."

"Unfortunately, the bills as drafted would expose law-abiding US Internet and technology companies to new uncertain liabilities, private rights of action, and technology mandates that would require monitoring of web sites," they said in the letter to the House and Senate judiciary committees.

"We are concerned that these measures pose a serious risk to our industry's continued track record of innovation and job-creation, as well as to our nation's cyber security," the Internet giants said.
